Apple is banking on privacy to set its smart glasses apart - The Verge

Apple is reportedly planning to unveil its first smart glasses at WWDC next June, with a launch expected by the end of 2027, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
Part of the delay is tied to Apple ensuring its privacy features and messaging are in order before entering a category dominated by Meta.
Smart glasses, especially Meta's, have drawn controversy over the ability to covertly capture photos and videos, which risks undermining Apple's long-standing privacy reputation.
Apple is expected to rely on on-device processing and to skip more contentious features such as facial recognition and always-on recording like Meta's "super sensing."
Gurman believes Apple will also avoid using customer recordings to train its AI models, alongside additional hardware and software privacy protections.
The company could eventually release a version of the glasses without a camera, or with a camera used solely for sensing that cannot capture photos or video, echoing rumors about its AI-enabled AirPods.
