Berkshire Hathaway boosts Alphabet to a top three holding, ups Delta and housing bets - CNBC

Berkshire Hathaway sharply raised its Alphabet stake in the second quarter, holding about 106 million shares worth $37.9 billion at the end of June—an 83% increase that made the Google parent its third-largest U.S.-listed equity holding, behind only Apple and American Express.
The bulk of the increase stemmed from a $10 billion private stock purchase announced in early June, when Alphabet sought capital to fund its AI infrastructure buildout; Warren Buffett, now chairman, said he championed the bullish view with CEO Greg Abel's backing.
The conglomerate expanded its airline bet, lifting its Delta Air Lines holding 44% to 57.3 million shares worth roughly $5.4 billion, having only recently returned to Delta after exiting airlines early in the pandemic.
Berkshire increased housing exposure, raising Lennar Class A shares nearly 30% to 13.1 million shares (about $1.19 billion) and Class B shares 25% to roughly 298,000, while disclosing a small new position in D.R. Horton of 3,600 shares.
Ending a 14-quarter run of net stock sales, Berkshire became a net buyer of equities in the second quarter with nearly $20 billion in net purchases.
The company's cash pile fell to $365.5 billion at the end of June from a record $397.4 billion three months earlier, as it deployed more capital through investments and share repurchases under Abel, who now serves as CEO.
