The woman killed by an apparently emotionally disturbed suspect in Times Square has been identified as 32-year-old Erin Piacenti of Chester, New Jersey.
β¨ Key Highlights
- A 32-year-old woman, Erin Piacenti, died at the hospital after being stabbed Monday in what the NYPD described as a "random and unprovoked" attack in Times Square, while a 68-year-old man was hospitalized at Bellevue and released Tuesday afternoon.
- Police identified the suspect as 39-year-old Pamela Cisneros of Queens, who was allegedly threatening people with two knives near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue around 4:26 p.m. before stabbing both victims in the abdomen.
- According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the 68-year-old man had just exited the subway with his wife when the suspect pulled the knives from a bag; Cisneros then moved up Seventh Avenue and stabbed Piacenti.
- Witnesses flagged down officers, who confronted Cisneros for about four minutes and gave repeated commands to drop the knives, which she refused, reportedly telling them, "I'm not dropping anything. I would rather kill both of you."
- Officers deployed tasers twice before two officers fired their service weapons, striking Cisneros, who was pronounced dead at a hospital; two knives were recovered from the scene.
- Tisch said Cisneros had a documented mental health history, and Bank of America confirmed Piacenti worked as a vice president of business selection and conflicts, calling her loss deeply saddening.
