Pennsylvania measles cases near 800 as outbreak grows - Yahoo

Pennsylvania's Department of Health reported 792 measles cases on Monday, September 21, 2026, an increase of 25 from the figure reported the previous Friday, keeping the state at the heart of the nation's worst measles resurgence in decades.
Hospitalizations rose to 155 confirmed measles patients, up from 150 reported on September 18, with Lancaster County remaining the hardest-hit area throughout the outbreak.
Earlier in September, the state reported measles-related deaths among unvaccinated residents, prompting a disagreement between Governor Josh Shapiro and U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. over how many fatalities were directly caused by the virus.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not yet included Pennsylvania's 2026 measles deaths in its national tally, saying it is reviewing how it classifies such deaths.
Nationally, the U.S. had recorded 3,471 measles cases this year as of September 17, according to CDC data.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that can cause fever, rash and respiratory complications, but it is preventable with the MMR vaccine, a routine childhood immunization that is 97% effective after two doses.
