Seattle pays tribute to festival shooting victims - BBC

Seattle mourned three victims killed in a shooting at the annual Bite of Seattle food festival on Sunday, its final day, with a candlelight vigil held Monday and online fundraisers drawing tens of thousands of dollars.
The deceased were identified as Junior Cee Niko Semo, 19, Carlos Israel Sanchez Villalba, 44, and Ashley Whitehead, 56, while at least four others were injured.
Villalba was remembered as a devoted husband and father of three known for his kindness, with his family's GoFundMe directed toward funeral costs; Whitehead, described as "a lover of life, art and family," was waiting in line for cotton candy with her daughter and died during surgery after exchanging final words with her eldest daughter, Zoie.
The free three-day festival typically draws around 350,000 people annually, adding to the shock over violence at what officials called an iconic community celebration.
At the vigil, Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson condemned gun violence, saying "This is not acceptable," while Washington Governor Bob Ferguson said the community was struggling to make sense of the tragedy.
Police described the attack as a "targeted" act of gang violence and suspect victim Semo was involved in the gunfight; a 15-year-old is in custody, a third suspect remains unidentified, and three guns were recovered from the scene, with the other two victims not suspected of any crime.
