His family said his children, niece and sister were home "just minutes before" he harmed himself, but "immediately fled to protect the children from witnessing any further trauma" once it became clear he was in a severe mental health crisis.
The family stated their "highest priority" is helping Hilton's children heal, and asked media and paparazzi to leave the area around his home.
Earlier statements said Hilton is "able to communicate," which gave the family hope, though they noted little information had been made available to them; his team also confirmed he is "receiving medical care."
The Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office confirmed Hilton was taken to a hospital late Tuesday after fans called police in response to the livestream, during which he appeared covered in blood while apparently self-harming as viewers urged him to stop.
Authorities told CNN they spoke with family on scene and confirmed Hilton was alone inside before de-escalating, while a TikTok spokesperson told The Washington Post that a moderator error delayed the livestream's removal, saying the system had flagged it within minutes.
