Emmy Awards 2026: What to expect from the ceremony and how to watch - BBC

The 2026 Emmy Awards take place Monday in Los Angeles, honouring shows including Beef, Hacks, Pluribus, The Pitt, Slow Horses, The Bear and Abbott Elementary in what is regarded as US television's most prestigious ceremony.
Nominated actors include Zendaya, Noah Wyle, Sarah Snook and Colman Domingo, alongside British contenders such as Matthew Rhys, Carey Mulligan, Jack Lowden, Riz Ahmed (Bait), Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat), Kate O'Flynn (Widow's Bay) and Gary Oldman.
In the drama categories, last year's winner The Pitt returns to defend its title after a second series and holds eight acting nominations, competing against Pluribus, Slow Horses, The Diplomat and Game of Thrones prequel A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms.
Hollywood satire Hacks is widely predicted to continue its Emmys success following its fifth and final season, with potential acting wins for Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder; Smart could reach eight career Emmys, tying the record held by Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Cloris Leachman.
Other comedy contenders include Widow's Bay, Shrinking, Abbott Elementary and Nobody Wants This, while the limited or anthology category features the second season of Beef, plus All Her Fault, The Beast in Me and DTF St Louis, the last performing strongly at the Creative Arts Emmys.
Several major titles have a reduced presence, with the final seasons of Euphoria and Stranger Things weakly represented, and viral hit Heated Rivalry ineligible for this year's awards.
