Sinister new threat in West Hollywood after water main break devastated city - New York Post

Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies are warning that opportunistic criminals may target vacant homes and businesses in West Hollywood following a major water main break that flooded the city this week.
The LASD is deploying additional officers from its West Hollywood station and conducting burglary suppression, parking enforcement, and surveillance in affected areas, with deputies checking IDs of residents seeking entry to impacted streets.
Sgt. Murray warned that anyone coming to the area to commit crimes "will get caught and go to jail," as deputies actively patrol for issues.
Officials cautioned residents about scammers preying on flood victims, including "chaser" tow trucks that attempt to remove submerged vehicles without owners' permission and fraudsters offering suspicious cash-only repair deals.
The water main break struck Thursday morning near Sunset Boulevard and Holloway Drive, causing widespread property damage, smashing cars together, and creating a sinkhole that two men fell into.
Mayor Karen Bass said the main challenge from the break was disruption to morning commuters, noting that the burst pipes were more than 100 years old.
