'The Odyssey' in IMAX 70mm is available at these 25 theater locations - USA Today

Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" arrives in theaters July 17, 2026, and the director's preferred viewing format, 70mm IMAX, is available at just 25 theater locations across the United States.
70mm film is physically larger than a standard 35mm strip, delivering higher resolution, while the IMAX presentation expands the image so viewers see more of the frame than in a conventional theater.
The format offers the highest resolution and largest screen possible for the film, which is why Nolan recommends audiences seek it out despite the limited availability.
Demand has been extraordinary: 70mm IMAX screenings went on sale in July 2025, a full year ahead of release, and even 3 a.m. showings at New York's Lincoln Square IMAX theater are sold out.
"The Odyssey" is the first narrative feature shot entirely with IMAX cameras, a milestone for Nolan and for cinema, since films typically reserve the bulky, expensive and loud cameras only for select action sequences.
To capture dialogue as well as action throughout the movie, Nolan enclosed the cameras in a noise-reducing casing called a "blimp," enabling him to preserve the expanded frame across the entire film.
