Tom Cruise praised Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey on social media Thursday after attending an early screening, thanking Nolan, producing partner Emma Thomas, and the cast and crew, writing that he "can't wait to see it again."
Cruise shared a photo of himself holding a ticket in front of the film's Imax 70mm theater, calling it "an amazing night in a movie theater."
The Odyssey, opening Friday, adapts Homer's epic with Matt Damon as Odysseus journeying home to Ithaca after the Trojan War, alongside Anne Hathaway as Penelope and Tom Holland as Telemachus, plus Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Jon Bernthal, Elliot Page, Travis Scott and Charlize Theron.
The film holds a 96 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and made history as the first feature shot entirely with Imax 70mm film cameras, though Cruise and Nolan have never worked together.
Both are known as advocates for theatrical moviegoing; Cruise delayed Top Gun: Maverick during the pandemic to preserve the theater experience, and the 2022 sequel grossed nearly $1.5 billion, prompting Steven Spielberg to credit him with helping save theatrical distribution.
Cruise has promoted other filmmakers' work, including Nolan's Tenet and Oppenheimer, and is preparing for his next film, Digger, directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu for Warner Bros., whose first trailer this week showed him in heavy prosthetic makeup.
