‘The Odyssey’s $84M+ Second Weekend Will Be A Record For Christopher Nolan, Besting ‘Dark Knight’ – Saturday Box Office Update - Deadline

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey posted an $87M second weekend at the domestic box office, marking his best-ever second frame and surpassing prior benchmarks, after a nearly $26M Friday and $34.6M Saturday.
The result stands as the best second weekend for an R-rated film behind only Deadpool & Wolverine ($96.8M) and ahead of It ($60.1M); with a $286.3M domestic total, it is now the year's top-grossing R-rated movie, ahead of Obsession ($259.8M).
Globally the film, starring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, John Leguizamo, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron, has reached $639.6M after a $215.3M second international frame, and ranks as Universal's second-highest-grossing R-rated title behind Oppenheimer ($330M).
Enhanced formats—Imax, PLFs and 70MM—drove 57% of the second weekend gross, up from 53% previously, with Imax at 27% and PLFs at 19%; the TCL Chinese Theatre led Imax 70MM screens with $254K through Saturday.
Counting sales and pre-sales, The Odyssey became the all-time top grosser at the TCL Chinese Theatre with $2.48M, edging Oppenheimer's $2.38M, illustrating how a minority of premium screens can drive the bulk of a tentpole's revenue.
Meanwhile, Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 5 crossed $1 billion to become the year's highest-grossing film at $1.022B, ahead of the Super Mario Galaxy Movie ($1.011B); male moviegoers made up 52% of The Odyssey's audience, down from 59% opening weekend.
