Oscar-winning songwriter Glen Hansard killed in crash - BBC

Oscar-winning Irish musician Glen Hansard, 56, has died in a single-vehicle motorbike crash on Lower Road in Lucan, west of Dublin, reported to emergency services shortly before 04:30 local time on Wednesday.
Hansard first gained prominence in the 1991 musical comedy film The Commitments and became the long-time frontman of the acclaimed rock band The Frames.
He won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2008 alongside Markéta Irglová for the song featured in the low-budget romance film Once, and the pair released three albums as The Swell Season; his 2016 solo album Didn't He Ramble earned a Grammy nomination.
His management company, ATC Management, said his family was "deeply shocked and heartbroken" and thanked the emergency services who attended the scene; Hansard was the father of a three-year-old boy.
Hansard was recognised for his charity work, starting an annual Christmas Eve busk in Dublin City Centre in 2010 that drew musicians including Bono, Sinéad O'Connor and Shane McGowan; the Simon Community charity said it was "devastated" and praised his commitment to social justice.
Tributes came from across the music world, with Bruce Springsteen saying he was "heartbroken," and friend Colin Davidson describing him as a "unique... incredibly kind, loyal, warm human being" and calling the busk "an international Irish institution in its own right."
