LSU star DJ Pickett refuses to give up wearing No. 5 in new wrinkle to Jayden Daniels drama - New York Post

LSU cornerback DJ Pickett is refusing to relinquish the No. 5 jersey, insisting the number is rightfully his after the Tigers promised it to him.
Pickett told reporters on Thursday that he has worn the number since he was 4 years old, adding that he wishes former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels well.
The dispute intensified after Daniels sent LSU a cease-and-desist letter demanding the school stop using his name, image and likeness (NIL) once the program gave his old No. 5 to the sophomore defensive back.
A spokesperson for Daniels said his family feels "profoundly disrespected" by LSU's decision, arguing that Jayden believed his number would remain a protected part of his college legacy.
Daniels, 25, spent two seasons at LSU, winning the 2023 Heisman Trophy with 3,812 passing yards and 40 touchdowns while leading the Tigers to a 10-3 record.
Now entering his third NFL season with the Washington Commanders, Daniels said his focus remains on training camp and expressed hope that the matter can be resolved privately between his team and the university.
