6 dead, including suspect, in series of killings in Michigan - AP News

A series of shootings in Missaukee County, Michigan — roughly 170 miles northwest of Detroit — left five people plus the suspect dead on Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, according to Michigan State Police.
Officers responded just before noon to a shooting at a home, where they found three people dead and a fourth in critical condition; the wounded victim was taken to a hospital.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Chad Hickman, fled before police arrived; during a large-scale search, officers discovered a fourth victim at another home.
Authorities warned via social media that Hickman was armed and dangerous, urging community members not to approach him and to avoid the affected areas.
Hickman's vehicle was later located in a wooded area near Whitlock Lake, leading investigators to his body and that of another deceased person.
Lt. Ashley Miller called the situation "heartbreaking," saying investigators would work through the night to process each scene, while Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said she was briefed and offered thoughts to the victims and the Missaukee community; victims' names were withheld pending family notification.
