‘I’ve Been Scammed Left and Right’: Demand for ‘Odyssey’ Tickets Gives Rise to Sketchy Scalpers - Variety

Demand for tickets to Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" in Imax 70mm has surged, prompting desperate posts from moviegoers on the subreddit r/NYCmovies, including one user who said they'd "been scammed left and right" while trying to secure a single ticket.
The AMC Lincoln Square 13 is the only Imax 70mm screen in New York City and one of just 41 such screens worldwide, making its screenings especially coveted.
Screenings at the venue are sold out to an unprecedented degree, with only wheelchair spots remaining; sold-out showtimes include 2 a.m. screenings running through Aug. 2 and other listed showtimes through Aug. 12.
An AMC spokesperson declined to comment on whether additional showtimes would be added, leaving hopeful fans without a clear path to more tickets.
The r/NYCmovies subreddit maintains a clearly posted "No Scalping of Tickets" rule, but scalpers and scammers have flooded the page attempting to sell tickets above face value or defraud cinephiles.
Moderator Tessa told Variety that the community quickly reports and bans users caught scalping, though the effort is complicated by Reddit's anonymity, as banned scalpers often delete their accounts and create new ones to continue operating.
