One person was arrested and police searched for a second suspect after a shooting erupted around 6 p.m. Sunday, July 26, at the Bite of Seattle food festival near the Space Needle at Seattle Center, leaving three people dead and four others wounded.
Two victims died at the scene and a third died at a hospital, while the four wounded—including a 2-year-old boy—were hospitalized in stable condition, according to Seattle Fire Department spokesperson Grace Nuñez.
Investigators believe the two suspects were shooting at each other, and Assistant Seattle Police Chief Tyrone Davis said there was no ongoing threat to the public despite one suspect remaining at large.
Dozens of officers were providing security at the festival, and some witnessed one of the suspects firing; one suspect surrendered at the scene while the other fled, evading a search of the grounds.
Police did not have a description of the outstanding suspect, and Davis said it was unclear whether the victims were involved in the confrontation, adding, "We're still trying to figure this out."
The Bite of Seattle is an annual three-day festival drawing hundreds of food and retail vendors and performers, and the gunfire occurred during its waning hours. Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson spoke at a news conference following the shooting.
