Shelley Fabares, ‘Coach’ and ‘The Donna Reed Show’ Star, Dies at 82 - Variety

Shelley Fabares, best known for starring in the classic sitcoms "The Donna Reed Show" and "Coach," died Saturday in Los Angeles at age 82, her family announced.
Her family paid tribute in a statement, remembering her as both "a celebrated performer" and a loving person, and asked for privacy while requesting comfort in knowing her work and memories will endure.
Fabares played daughter Mary Stone on ABC's "The Donna Reed Show," appearing in 192 of its 275 episodes before leaving the series in 1965, and later portrayed TV news anchor Christine Armstrong on "Coach" (1989–1997), earning Emmy nominations for supporting comedy actress in 1993 and 1994.
During her "Donna Reed" years she pursued music, scoring a No. 1 hit with the 1961 track "Johnny Angel," and she appeared in teen films including 1964's "Ride the Wild Surf" and three Elvis Presley movies: "Girl Happy" (1965), "Spinout!" (1966) and "Clambake" (1967).
Her extensive credits included "The Love Boat," "Fantasy Island," "One Day at a Time" and "The Practice," plus a notable role as Joy Piccolo in the acclaimed 1970s TV movie "Brian's Song," alongside James Caan and Billy Dee Williams.
Born in Santa Monica in 1944, Fabares grew up around Hollywood; her aunt was Broadway and screen star Nanette Fabray, and her early breaks included a 1954 stint on "The Loretta Young Show" and a supporting part in the 1956 Rock Hudson drama "Never Say Goodbye."
