Search for North Carolina woman Liz Waddell is still a missing person case, Grenada police insist - NBC News

Grenadian police said Tuesday that their nearly week-old search for missing North Carolina woman Elizabeth "Liz" Waddell remains an active missing person investigation, with hopes of finding her alive.
Waddell, a 44-year-old resident of Cary, was last seen going for a swim at Grand Anse Beach on Wednesday, July 22, according to the Royal Grenada Police Force.
Surveillance footage tracked her walking on a jetty near the water at 11:36 a.m., entering the water at 11:51 a.m. and swimming under the jetty at 12:04 p.m., while witnesses later reported seeing her in open water.
Acting Commissioner of Police Randy Connaught said Waddell's traveling companion was captured on beach cameras at 12:46 p.m. and reported her missing at 5:50 p.m., adding there was "nothing questionable" about the companion's account and that she continues to cooperate.
Police appealed to fishermen, boat operators and residents along the southern coastline to watch for a medium-build woman with short blond hair, as Waddell's husband traveled to the island to assist the search.
Waddell and her friend arrived in Grenada, the eastern Caribbean nation about 100 miles north of Venezuela, on July 11, and officials expressed empathy for the family while remaining hopeful she will be found safe.
