Boeing posts bigger loss than expected as Air Force One costs weigh on results - CNBC

Boeing reported a wider-than-expected second-quarter loss for the period ending in 2026, posting an adjusted loss of 76 cents per share against Wall Street expectations of a 30-cent loss.
The company took a $280 million charge on its long-delayed program to build two 747s to serve as the next-generation Air Force One aircraft, though it maintained expectations for a first delivery in 2028.
CEO Kelly Ortberg said the Air Force One program has cleared its design phase and that Boeing will add resources to meet the delivery timeline, emphasizing its importance to the government customer.
Revenue climbed 8% year-over-year to $24.56 billion, topping the $24.25 billion analysts anticipated, driven by gains across its businesses including higher commercial aircraft deliveries.
Commercial aircraft deliveries rose 14% to 171 planes from 150 a year earlier, and Boeing has increased 737 Max production to 47 per month with further increases planned.
Free cash flow reached $631 million, far exceeding the $177 million cash burn analysts expected and reversing a $200 million burn a year earlier, while the net loss narrowed to $428 million (67 cents a share) from $612 million (92 cents a share) previously.
