Meghan Markle Reportedly Dropped From Consideration to Join Guy Ritchie’s ‘The Gentlemen’ - The Hollywood Reporter

Meghan Markle has reportedly been dropped from consideration for a role in season three of Guy Ritchie's Netflix series The Gentlemen, according to journalist Tina Brown.
Brown, the former editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, wrote in a Substack column published Saturday that intense backlash in the U.K. made the casting "untenable to go forward," adding it "does not bode well for Meghan's acting comeback in the UK."
The report came a day after The Hollywood Reporter learned Markle was in advanced discussions to join the show, with a role being written for the third season, which has not yet been renewed; season two premieres Sept. 3 and stars Theo James.
The role would have marked the Suits star's return to acting after she stepped away in 2017 upon getting engaged to Prince Harry; Brown reported the potential role was a significant factor in the couple's decision to move back to the U.K.
Ritchie, who created the series adapted from his 2019 film, met Markle through mutual acquaintances, and both he and Markle are represented by WME, which did not respond to inquiries.
Markle and Prince Harry have a history with Netflix, signing an overall deal after moving to California in 2020 that produced docuseries including Harry & Meghan, Polo, and With Love, Meghan; the deal was downgraded to a first-look agreement last year, and Netflix recently exited her lifestyle brand.
