Technology and ScienceBy Juli Clover9/3/20261 min read
We're less than a week away from the debut of Apple's first foldable iPhone, and rumors have been picking up as the event date approaches....
āØ Key Highlights
- Apple is set to unveil its first foldable iPhone, dubbed the iPhone Ultra, at its "Surprise and Shine" event on Wednesday, September 9, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models.
- Despite earlier dummy units lacking a MagSafe ring, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says MagSafe charging is expected to be supported, while the device's crease will be minimal but not entirely eliminated.
- The rumored 4.5mm-thick device is expected to rely on Touch ID via a side button rather than Face ID, with volume buttons at the top, and will run iOS 27 with multitasking, sidebars, and side-by-side app support.
- Camera specs point to a two-lens setup with Wide and Ultra Wide lenses, and the phone will use Apple's A20 Pro chip, the same as the iPhone 18 Pro; Apple may still use Qualcomm modems in the US depending on whether its C2 modem supports mmWave 5G.
- The iPhone Ultra is expected in white/silver and dark blue, with an Apple Pencil tested but unlikely to launch, and pricing anticipated to exceed $2,000, possibly reaching $2,500 based on storage.
- Launch timing rumors have been mixed with some reports of delays, though Gurman expects the device to arrive at or near the iPhone 18 Pro launch, with possible supply constraints leading to long waits for late buyers.
