President Donald Trump signs order creating US Space Academy - Al Jazeera

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday establishing the United States' first-ever Space Academy, announcing the move during an event at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Texas honoring the four-person Artemis II crew.
Trump described the training facility as "a big deal" and "top line," saying it would "attract, train and graduate the very best of our nation."
He compared the new academy to prestigious US service institutions such as the US Naval Academy in Annapolis and the US Military Academy at West Point, which prepare young Americans to become military officers.
The order also creates a presidential commission to advise on the academy's development, led by NASA administrator Jared Isaacman and including Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, Air Force Secretary Troy Meink, and White House Office of Management and Budget director Russ Vought.
Trump said graduates would go on to serve the US Space Force, NASA, and the civilian flight industry.
Space has been a priority throughout Trump's time in office, as reflected by his December 2019 signing of legislation that created the Space Force as the US military's sixth branch; at Friday's event he also presented the Congressional Space Medal of Honor to each of the four Artemis II crew members.
