Police capture suspected serial killer disguised as woman, carrying baby in Brazil - CBS News

Brazilian police captured a suspected serial killer on Sunday after a 30-hour manhunt in a forested area of Paraiba state in northeastern Brazil, according to a Friday announcement.
The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Jorlan Lopes da Silva, was arrested while disguised as a woman — wearing a striped dress, long black wig, women's sandals, sunglasses and painted nails — and carrying a baby that police said was not related to him.
Authorities have confirmed his involvement in 16 killings in the region since May, 11 of which he confessed to during questioning, though he claimed to have committed as many as 80 homicides.
In an interrogation video obtained by AFP, the man said he acted alone, denied ties to organized crime, and claimed his victims were "linked to the criminal world," insisting he never targeted family members or working people and rejecting the label of "psychopath."
He said he committed his first killing at age 13; police, who consider him part of an "ultra-violent" criminal group, had earlier seized bulletproof vests, a submachine gun stock and over 100 rounds of ammunition, which he acknowledged were his.
Two other men were arrested on suspicion of involvement, and under Brazilian law the suspect faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison; the killings occurred in the Mulungu region, some 1,553 miles north of Rio de Janeiro.
