Bertha makes Texas landfall. Houston still faces rain, gusty winds - Houston Chronicle

Tropical Storm Bertha made landfall near the Texas-Louisiana border on Thursday afternoon, with its center located just northwest of Beaumont as it moved inland.
The storm carried maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and was moving west at 10 mph, with forecasters expecting it to weaken steadily as it crossed Southeast Texas.
Bertha, the second named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, was projected to become a post-tropical low-pressure system by Friday morning before dissipating later that day.
For most of the Houston area, the forecast called for little more than passing showers and occasional gusty winds, with the strongest weather remaining east and south of the metro.
Much of the Houston metro was expected to receive less than a half-inch of rain, with higher totals possible south of the city, though widespread flooding was not anticipated.
The most significant hazards, including tropical storm-force winds, rough surf, dangerous rip currents and minor coastal flooding, were expected along the upper Texas Coast into the evening before conditions improved overnight.
