The controversy follows the fatal shooting of Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, a 25-year-old Colombian national killed by an ICE officer in Biddeford, Maine, on Monday, July 13, 2026, one block from his apartment building.
Community members created a growing memorial with flowers, candles and portraits, while friends and relatives held a vigil at his family home in Bucaramanga, Colombia, on July 14, and additional gatherings were organized in Maine.
Traffic stops have served as a central instrument in Trump's broader immigration crackdown, and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin weighed in hours after the president made his position public.
