Contradiction? Despite pleas from Sean Strickland, Bud Light cans Dustin Poirier after drunken arrest - MMA Mania

Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier confirmed that Bud Light terminated his sponsorship contract immediately following his Father's Day arrest in Atlanta, Georgia.
Poirier was initially charged with misdemeanor public drunkenness after an airport incident, and body camera footage later showed him visibly intoxicated and threatening to fight police before being taken into custody.
Speaking with Ariel Helwani, Poirier said the deal's loss cost his family a few hundred thousand dollars still remaining on the contract, but he accepted it, saying he didn't need "that poison" in his life and couldn't promote something he no longer takes part in.
Poirier acknowledged he cannot drink responsibly, drawing a distinction between himself and others who can, and has since apologized while revealing mental health struggles tied to his retirement from the sport.
Fellow fighter Sean Strickland had publicly urged Bud Light to stand by Poirier during his lowest point, calling the decision to drop him "the most un-American" move and criticizing the brand's role in fostering addiction.
Strickland, who initially criticized Poirier after the arrest before apologizing, ultimately failed to sway the company, which proceeded with cutting ties with "The Diamond."
