Berlin pride event canceled after vehicle drives into crowd - DW.com

A van drove into a crowd near Berlin's annual Christopher Street Day (CSD) Pride event on Saturday night, killing one woman and injuring 16 people, with three suffering life-threatening injuries, according to police.
The city's fire department reported eight people seriously injured and five with minor injuries, while the area around Tiergarten park in central Berlin was closed off.
Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old Abdul B., described as slim, around 1.9 meters tall, with black hair, wearing a black hoodie and white pants, and warned he could be "armed and dangerous."
A police spokesperson, Florian Nath, said the suspect was known to authorities and believed to be linked to "the Islamist scene in Berlin," though it remained unclear whether others were involved.
A citywide manhunt was launched involving more than 2,200 personnel, including officers from Hamburg and other federal states, with armed police patrolling the scene; no arrests had been made.
Berlin's mayor described the incident as "an attack on our free and open society," while the CSD, one of Europe's largest LGBTQ+ Pride events, draws tens of thousands of visitors annually.
