Jadeveon Clowney is rejoining the Houston Texans, the team that drafted him No. 1 overall in 2014, telling the Houston Chronicle it was "a really easy decision" that "wasn't about the money."
The 33-year-old said other teams offered more money and guaranteed starting roles, but he chose Houston, where he has lived for 12 years, calling it a family decision made with his relatives.
Clowney explained his return by saying he has "grown up" and learned to lead, adding he believes he can help mentor younger players and that the Texans have the talent to reach a Super Bowl.
A free agent who recently visited the Cleveland Browns, Clowney has played for seven teams over his 12-year career, with Houston his longest stint before he left after the 2018 season for Seattle, Tennessee, Cleveland, Baltimore, Carolina and Dallas.
Last season with the Dallas Cowboys, Clowney appeared in 13 games and recorded 8½ sacks and 12 tackles for loss, bringing his career total to 66½ sacks.
Houston also signed defensive lineman Mario Edwards, who was released this spring with a failed injury designation, and cut running back Evan Hull and offensive tackle Derrick Graham, moves aimed at bolstering defensive line depth after losing backups Derek Barnett and Denico Autry in free agency.
