DNR investigates beaver attack at Seneca Creek State Park - WBAL-TV

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is investigating a beaver attack at Seneca Creek State Park after a 10-year-old girl was bitten Thursday afternoon while attending a summer camp program, marking the third such attack reported this season.
The beaver fled into the water when camp counselors stepped in, and the girl was taken to a Bethesda hospital, where she was treated for three lacerations to her upper leg.
DNR, Montgomery County Animal Services and park staff are continuing to search for the beaver involved in the incident.
Officials say the attack is not believed to be connected to two earlier incidents last month at Cunningham Falls State Park, where a 19-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy were bitten in separate encounters, both by beavers that tested positive for rabies.
Although DNR had earlier said it was investigating a possible rabies outbreak in the local beaver population, the agency reports no indication of an outbreak in either Frederick County or Montgomery County.
As a precaution, a portion of Seneca Creek State Park near Berryville Road and roughly one mile of nearby trail are closed until further notice, while other areas, including the Lake Area off Clopper Road in Gaithersburg, remain open to visitors.
