GOP Rep. Cory Mills loses his Florida primary amid investigations - NBC News

Republican Rep. Cory Mills lost his Florida primary in the state's 7th District to former television journalist Ryan Elijah, NBC News projects.
With more than 80% of the expected vote counted, Elijah led with 46% of the GOP primary vote to Mills' 34%.
Mills was defeated while facing multiple investigations, including a House Ethics Committee probe into alleged sexual misconduct and campaign finance violations, and a Justice Department investigation into his finances; he has denied wrongdoing.
Despite the controversies, Mills had the endorsement of President Donald Trump, making him one of a rare group of Republicans to lose a primary with Trump's backing—following Tennessee Rep. Andy Ogles' loss this month.
Elijah drew support from prominent Florida Republicans, including Reps. Anna Paulina Luna and Mike Haridopolos, who took the unusual step of endorsing against a House colleague and emphasized Elijah's character and integrity.
Mills struggled financially, raising under $900,000 through late July—twice Elijah's total but far less than most House members seeking re-election; he is the 11th House member (seven Democrats, four Republicans) to lose a primary this year, an unusually high figure. The seat, which Trump carried by 12 points in 2024, is one Democrats hoped to make competitive this fall.
