Hawk Fire update: Some evacuations downgraded as North Valleys residents await answers - KTVN

Containment on the Hawk Fire climbed to 85% by the evening of August 25, 2026, with 586 personnel continuing to battle the blaze, up from 27% containment earlier that afternoon.
Fire officials reported the fire had grown to 15,067 acres, with 47 homes and one business destroyed and eight homes sustaining major damage, mostly on the west side of Highway 395; no homes were damaged in the Somersett area.
Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam announced repopulation of the entire east side of Highway 395, allowing about 9,300 residents in Golden Valley, Raleigh Heights, Hoge Road, Rancho San Rafael and surrounding areas to return, while roughly 5,000 people remained evacuated.
Seven people were injured, including four civilians and three firefighters, and canine teams searching for possible victims found none.
NV Energy reported 100 wooden poles damaged, having replaced 27 by Monday night with a similar batch expected Tuesday; about 4,500 customers still lacked power and around 250 gas customers were without service, with restoration pending until residents return.
The human-caused fire began Saturday near Somersett and remains under active investigation; authorities urged the public not to fly drones near the area, asking anyone who spots one to call 911, and Governor Lombardo was among those who spoke at a community meeting.
