β¨ Key Highlights
- U.S. District Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin has scheduled a Zoom hearing for Thursday at 11 a.m. PT to examine the proposed settlement between state attorneys general and Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery.
- In an order Tuesday, the judge said the hearing will address outstanding questions about the factual and legal basis of the parties' proposed consent decree, as well as how it would be implemented.
- The parties have filed a motion to approve the consent decree, which sets out conditions to resolve the lawsuit brought by the state AGs in July.
- Among the provisions, Paramount has committed to releasing at least 30 movies per year and to establishing an independent board to oversee CNN and CBS News adherence to journalistic standards.
- The judge canceled a scheduled hearing on whether the state AGs should be required to post a bond during the litigation, and said she would decide "in due course" on whether to dismiss a separate lawsuit filed by the Writers Guild of America to block the merger.
- The WGA said it has also reached a settlement with Paramount to end its litigation, with state AGs including Rob Bonta and Letitia James involved in the broader legal effort tied to the merger.
