Yemen’s Houthis claim attack on two Saudi oil tankers - Al Jazeera

Yemen's Houthi group claimed an attack on two Saudi oil tankers, the Encelia and Layla, in the Red Sea on Wednesday, with military spokesperson Yahya Saree citing their alleged violation of a naval blockade.
Saree said the strikes used ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones, sparking fires aboard the vessels, and claimed nearly ten additional ships were forced to turn back from their routes.
The Saudi Press Agency confirmed the Encelia had been hit, citing the country's Transport General Authority, and reported all crew members were safe while condemning the attacks as violations of international law.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations centre said it received reports that a tanker was struck by an unknown projectile, causing a fire that the crew was working to extinguish.
The Houthis imposed the maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia on July 20, framing it as an "eye for an eye" response and accusing Saudi leaders of a nearly 12-year siege on Yemen's ports and airports.
The escalation followed intense violence after the Yemeni government bombed the Houthi-controlled Sanaa airport to prevent an Iranian plane from landing, marking some of the worst fighting in four years.
