Zelenskyy accuses Russia of assisting Iran with satellite imagery of U.S. bases in Middle East - CBS News

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on July 25, 2026, that he will provide the United States with evidence he claims shows Russia is aiding Iran in targeting U.S. bases in the Middle East through satellite surveillance.
Writing on X, Zelenskyy said Russian satellite monitoring of Gulf states and U.S. military facilities has been recorded since early July, alleging the resulting imagery appears in Iran and correlates with Iranian strikes both before and after attacks.
He cited specific instances, saying that on July 19 and 20 alone, four air bases came within the area of interest of Russian satellites — two in Bahrain, one in Jordan, and one in Kuwait.
The accusation echoes earlier reporting; a senior U.S. official told CBS News six days into the war that Russia was providing intelligence to Iran on U.S. positions, with China also cited in some accounts.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, questioned on Capitol Hill, acknowledged "adversary alignment" and said Russia and China were enabling some of Iran's actions, though he said further details should remain classified.
President Trump contradicted Hegseth days later on Truth Social, stating he did not believe Russia or China were assisting Iran and saying both Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin had assured him they were not involved. The U.S. maintains roughly 45,000 military personnel and numerous bases across the region.
