Israel says it has serious concerns with Hamas disarmament deal - AP News

Israel has raised "serious security concerns" with the White House over the proposed disarmament deal with Hamas, according to Doron Spielman, spokesperson for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office.
The comments marked some of the first public reaction from Israel since U.S. President Donald Trump announced the agreement.
Spielman said Israeli intelligence assessments indicate Hamas remains committed to rebuilding its military capabilities rather than genuinely demilitarizing.
Israel said its military would not withdraw from Gaza — where it currently controls more than 60% of the territory — until Hamas fully disarms, warning that an early redeployment would allow the group to quickly expand its presence and rebuild its infrastructure.
Israeli airstrikes overnight into Sunday killed at least 17 people in Gaza, including children, according to local hospitals, with one strike hitting a car in Gaza City and killing four people, as confirmed by Shifa hospital.
Among those killed were couple Kamal Abu Muailiq, 68, and Huda Abu Muailiq, 59, buried in Deir al-Balah, and child Azzam Abu Al-Teif, killed alongside his father Abdullah in Gaza City, with funerals held Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026, amid soaring summer temperatures worsening conditions for displaced Palestinians.
