Trump says relationship is good even as Netanyahu rejects Gaza peace plan - Al Jazeera

US President Donald Trump insisted on Monday that his relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remains "very good," despite Netanyahu's outright rejection of the 15-point Gaza peace plan drafted by the US-led Board of Peace.
Trump made the brief remark in response to a journalist's shouted question at the close of an Oval Office event at the White House in Washington.
On Sunday, after more than a week of escalating criticism, Netanyahu formally stated his opposition to the plan, which called for Israel to withdraw forces in tandem with Hamas disarmament.
The Gaza plan is unpopular with Netanyahu's right-wing base, and far-right members of his cabinet had pressed him to reject it.
Late last month, Trump had announced a breakthrough, saying Hamas and other armed groups accepted a phased framework to surrender their weapons to a new Palestinian governing body, with Israel pulling out troops in tandem, to end the conflict that began in October 2023.
Netanyahu said the Israeli army "will not carry out any withdrawal until Hamas is genuinely disarmed," vowed that "no Palestinian state will arise" while he is prime minister, and confirmed Israel is "talking to the Americans," with Al Jazeera's Patty Culhane describing his stance as a "very dangerous game" that signals a growing rift between Washington and Tel Aviv.
