‘We will not allow Gaza to be rebuilt’ until Hamas disarms, Kushner says - Al Jazeera

US envoy Jared Kushner said the Trump administration will not permit reconstruction in Gaza until Hamas disarms, telling Fox News: "We have a plan to rebuild Gaza, but we will not allow Gaza to be rebuilt until the demilitarisation occurs."
Kushner met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, but the talks failed to produce a breakthrough on implementing a Gaza roadmap that Hamas had already agreed to.
While Hamas had accepted disarmament as part of a US-backed process involving Israeli withdrawal and an end to attacks, Israel rejected the proposal earlier in the month, insisting on full demilitarisation before making concessions.
Kushner appeared to align with the Israeli position, stating the US would not "restrict Israel's right to defend itself" against imminent threats, even as near-daily Israeli strikes continue.
Israel has killed at least 1,265 people in Gaza since a ceasefire took effect last year, while the overall war has killed 73,399 Palestinians since October 2023.
President Donald Trump, who called for an end to the strikes on Monday, has overseen roughly $25bn in US military aid to Israel over three years and defended Netanyahu's government at international forums, including sanctioning ICC officials.
